Photoshop Illustration Painting

This is a Photoshop painting that I made using some simple drawing methods with the pen tool. I started with a template to reference and used the pen tool to draw in the various shapes I saw. In the stacking order of the psd I started with the largest shapes in the background. Once the shapes were drawn in I started to eyedrop the color I needed, whether it was a trim piece, headlights, parking lights, or body paint, and brushed in the color. Next I repeated this process for the medium sized shapes and finally the smallest sized shapes. I went back and forth finding edges that would disappear or find the edge of the next shape.

Process View

Here I have sliced the psd build into three sections showing the painting process and how the layers are built up.

In this view you can see the light gently rolling over the sheet metal.

Layer Organization

The secret to this painting is breaking down the visual shapes into smaller shapes, properly naming those shapes, and organizing all of the layers.
